SIN. Its that one word that as Christians we all shudder upon hearing. Its not just because we’ve heard it from a pulpit one Sunday morning, but because we have seen the destructive power of sin in our own lives. Romans 3:23 highlights our ugly reality stating “for we have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. We are convicted by the works of our flesh “…sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealous, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these…” (Galatians 5:19-21) Even when we feel separated from God, NEVER forget about the FINISHED work of the Cross. God has already paid the price! “So if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.” (John 8:36)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” says the Lord in Jeremiah 29:11. In context, this is one of the darkest moments in Israeli history; the exile to Babylon for their wickedness. Yet, God still remembers His love for His people. God also remembers His love for you too, wherever you are! The goodness of the Lord is far better than the life the world offers. Through Christ, we didn’t lose our eligibility for the goodness of the Lord. Following the flood, BEFORE God makes the covenant with Noah to never again flood the Earth, He says, “…for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth…” (Genesis 8:21) God made his promises to us knowing we would fall short!
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matt 11:28-29) Jesus is there for us during our journey because He knows we can’t do it on our own! I’ve been poor, heartbroken, anxious, alone during my walk. The enemy was always quick to remind me of my shortcomings, but Jesus has always been there for me. I’ve been blessed with beautiful redemption amongst many others. I pray and expect to see God work miracles in your lives too! Never forget, The Cross proves the UNCONDITIONAL love He has for all of us!
Reflection Questions:
1. Are there areas where you have fallen short? God wants to give us a new life, but honest repentance is important. Will you accept the free gift of salvation and sanctification that God offers us? Will you let Jesus break your chains and set you free? “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
2. Do you feel unsatisfied with your life? Perhaps God is calling you to something more? I challenge you to trust what God has for you. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
3. We are all a part of the body of Christ. If we need help, reach out to others to help you. If you can, help others as we are all journeying together. “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)
Prayer: Father God, I just give you thanks for all of Your creation. Thank You for the Cross even though we have fall short. I pray now for a season of new life in all of Your children and that You would remember Your love for us. May we be guided by Your Spirit and bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I pray that You surround us all with godly people to encourage us all on our journey. I pray for protection against the lies of the evil one, and most importantly, that we would never forget Your love for us! In Jesus name I pray, amen!
